questions

Answers to some frequently asked questions about our courses, coaches and what we do:

What does my child have to wear/bring to each session?

We recommend participants wear normal playing kit i.e. shorts, socks, t-shirt. Trainers for those indoors and suitable warm clothing for those outdoors. Those playing football may wear their football strip, we recommend shinpads for older children 7yrs+, and boots if outdoors on grass although trainers may be fine. Please provide a drink for your child as we encourage regular intake of fluids (preferably non-fizzy).

Can I turn up with my child on the day?

Children must be pre-registered on our courses as coaches need to know the numbers of children they will be working with to plan their sessions to suit. Numbers are also limited so we recommend you register as we enforce a first come first served policy.

Do parents have to stay throughout the session?

No. Afterschool sessions are especially designed to give parents a little extra time to themselves before they have to pick their child up generally around 4.30pm, safe in the knowledge that their child is having fun, being active and most importantly in a safe environment with our qualified coaches. During all other courses parents may stay if they wish although they may want to leave and return once the session has finished, it's your choice.

What happens to outdoor sessions in case of bad weather?

Any afterschool sessions will be delivered indoors in the school hall or gym. All other courses will continue as normal unless the weather is severe i.e. torrential rain, snow. If you are unsure please contact us prior to the session to confirm.

Do I get confirmation of my childs place on the course?

Unless you hear otherwise, please assume your child has been successful in obtaining a place on the course.

My child has never played football before, does this matter?

All our sports programmes have a strong emphasis on fun and enjoyment. Players will be split according to age and ability where possible to help provide an enjoyable experience during early development.

Can girls join in?

All our courses are for girls and boys and we encourage more girls to participate.

Who delivers the coaching?

Our programmes will be delivered by fully qualified coaches who have significant and specialised experience of working with young children. All of our coaches have first aid and child protection certificates and have been CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) checked.

Can my child join a football team?

Most local clubs have trials throughout the year. Children cannot play competitive football within a team until they reach U8's (Year 3 at school), do not be fooled (by clubs) by thinking your child will play before this age. Football clubs do not provide a different service to Teamscene at this age and due to our wealth of fun games and our highly qualified coaches we provide an unbeatable, successful grassroots programme for budding young footballers to learn their trade. Please be aware some clubs do not provide qualified coaches. I would always recommend a Charter Standard Club which is a status and best practice guide that clubs can achieve that sets standards of coaching, administration and child protection for clubs working with young people. As a benchmark for quality, it will improve the playing experience for all.

How do I apply for a course?

If you already have an application form then just fill your child's details in and send it with the relevant payment to: 9 Reay Gardens, Westerhope, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE5 2NB. If you do not have a form then all application forms may be downloaded from this website, just visit the course page and click on the relevant download for the course programme of your choice.

What methods of payment can I use?

Cash or Cheque. We recommend that you do not send cash through the post. Please make cheques payable to 'Teamscene' and write your child's name on the back. We usually cash cheques half way through a particular course and sometimes we wait until the course has completed. Please therefore ensure there are enough funds in your account during this time as any cheques returned to us will be charged back to you.
